Biography

Moses was born in Egypt during a time when the Israelites were enslaved by Pharaoh Exodus 1:22^. To save him from a decree that all Hebrew boys be killed, his mother placed him in a basket and set him afloat on the Nile Exodus 2:3^. He was found and adopted by Pharaoh's daughter, growing up in the royal household Exodus 2:5^. Despite his privileged upbringing, Moses never forgot his heritage and later fled Egypt after killing an Egyptian who was beating a Hebrew Exodus 2:11-12^.

In the wilderness of Midian, Moses encountered God in the form of a burning bush, where he received his divine calling to lead the Israelites out of slavery Exodus 3:2-10^. Reluctant at first, he was reassured by God and given signs to perform before Pharaoh Exodus 4:1-9^. Moses returned to Egypt and, with his brother Aaron, confronted Pharaoh, demanding the release of the Israelites Exodus 5:1^. After a series of plagues that demonstrated God's power, Pharaoh finally relented, allowing the Israelites to leave Exodus 12:31^.

Moses led the people through the Red Sea, which God parted for them, and into the wilderness Exodus 14:21-22^. During their journey, they faced numerous challenges, including hunger and thirst, but God provided for them, giving them manna from heaven and water from a rock Exodus 16:4; Exodus 17:6. At Mount Sinai, Moses received the Ten Commandments, which became the foundation of Israelite law and ethics Exodus 20:1-17^.

Despite his close relationship with God, Moses faced rebellion and doubt from the people he led. He interceded for them when they sinned, demonstrating his deep commitment to their welfare Exodus 32:11-14^. Ultimately, Moses was not permitted to enter the Promised Land due to an act of disobedience Numbers 20:12^. He died on Mount Nebo, having seen the land from a distance Deuteronomy 34:1-4^. Moses remains a symbol of faith, leadership, and the covenant between God and His people.
